The Ukrainian Cabinet has adopted an energy strategy until 2030, the fuel and energy minister said Wednesday, RIA Novosty informed.

Ivan Plachkov said the new strategy set three key priorities of the government's energy policy, including shifting to energy-saving technologies, reducing dependence on fuel imports and ensuring reliable energy supplies to consumers.

The strategy envisages an increase in electricity generation by boosting the output of the nuclear and thermal power plants that use domestically mined raw materials (uranium and coal, respectively). It also aims to cut the consumption of natural gas to 50 billion cubic meters per year, down from the current 76 billion, and to triple annual domestic gas production to 30 billion cubic meters by 2030, the minister said.
