Victor Yushchenko took part in a meeting of the Public Council for Fair Elections. Borys Paton, President of the National Academy of Sciences, Yaroslav Davydovych, Head of the Central Election Commission, Oleksandr Medvedko, Prosecutor General, Ivan Vasyunyk, First Deputy Chief of Staff, Yuriy Lutsenko, Interior Minister, Yuriy Klyutchkovsky, President’s Representative in Verkhovna Rada, Mykola Poludyonny, Legal Advisor to the President, and Vitaly Boyko, Deputy Head of the Public Council attended the meeting, President's press office reported.

The participants discussed preparations for upcoming elections and specific measures that should be adopted to minimize existing problems. They particularly want to improve working conditions for members of local election commissions and better equip the polls not to make voters queue on March 26. They also believe commissions should be allowed to correct mistakes in misspelled or mistranslated names of voters and work more responsibly. The Council decided to authorize local officials to resolve all these problems.

Then the President reiterated that executives fairly accused of abusing their authority during the campaign would be punished.Mr. Yushchenkoalso said he intended to urge Ukraine’s mass media to publish instructions for voters and remind all people to ensure that their names are spelled correctly by local election commissions.
