At a press conference in Kyiv, Victor Yushchenko assured that Ukraine’s foreign policy would not change after the March 26 parliamentary elections, President's press office reported. He said European values corresponded to our interests most and added that “the Ukrainian nation should understand these values and follow them.”

“The European concept is intent to build a common European space but not a bipolar system in Europe,” he opined.

When asked to comment on the use of controversial issues during this year's election campaign,  Yushchenko said this was “politically erroneous.”

“I like the idea supported by political parties in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which agreed  not to debate discomforting issues during election battles as early as 1990s,” he said and added that such issues should be seriously discussed in society.
