Visiting the Chornobyl zone, Victor Yushchenko met a family of self-settlers in the deserted village of Novoshepylivka, which is located a few kilometers away from the nuclear power plant.

Olena and Sava Obrazhey have no neighbors. They settled in the village in the 70s. They run their small farm and can enjoy no such conveniences as electricity, heating, or communication.

The Obrazheys told the President about their hard living conditions. He pledged to order officers of the Emergency Ministry to provide them with food products, firewood, and other things they need within one week. Yushchenko assuredhis hostshe would personally control the execution of his order.

The Head of State was accompanied by Lina Kostenko, who has been going to the Chornobyl zone on ethnic expeditions for the past five years.
