Answering questions at the French Institute for International Relations, Victor Yushchenko said his government had been wrong to close the so-called free economic zones and is trying to correct its mistake now, President's press office reported.

The Head of State believes the government should not have closed zones that functioned legally and efficiently. The national economy incurred great losses, the greatest of them being investors’ trust.

The President said he had recently met with representatives of the Yadzaki Company, which had worked in one of such zones, to offer them a compensation.

Victor Yushchenko pledged to sign a memorandum between the government of Ukraine and investors that worked in free economic zones to solve all problems.

“The Ukrainian government has developed mechanisms to compensate VAT and import duties, so the problem of re-privatization or free economic zones is no longer disputed,” he stressed.
