Victor Yushchenko took part in a grand ceremony to open the 35th Molodist Film Festival at the Ukraina National Palace.

In his speech, the President of Ukraine said that, by holding this festival we paid “tribute to the Ukrainian cinema on which many Ukrainian generations have been brought up.”

The President noted that Molodist was associated with such Ukrainian movie directors as Sergey Paradzhanov, Ivan Mykolaichuk, Aleksandr Dovzhenko and Leonid Bykov. He thanked all who have been organizing our biggest film festival for more than thirty years. Yushchenko also expressed gratitude to all foreign guests for their participation.

“I am happy to see Jerzy Hoffman and Roman Polanski standing next to our movie artists and leading actors. Being present at the festival, they support our cinema,” he said.

After the speech, the Head of State presented Roman Polanski, whose Oliver Twist opened this year’s festival, with the symbolic Scythian Deer statuette.
