President Victor Yushchenko is presiding over the sixth plenary meeting of the Consultative Investment Council, President's press office informs.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, Secretariat Chief of Staff Oleh Rybachuk, National Bank Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh, Economy Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Finance Minister Victor Pynzenyk, First Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Ivan Vasyunyk, Olga Dergunova (Russia and CIS Microsoft), Jorge Zukoski (American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine), George Christopher Logush (Kraft Foods Ukraine), Bjorn Markstedt (European Business Association), Paul Ostling (Ernst & Young Global), German Economy Delegate in Ukraine Karin Rau, David Rogers (Cargill Europe), Hans-Jörg Rudlof (Barclays Capital), Illya Yurov (TRAST Investment Bank) and Natalie Jaresko (Western NIC Enterprise Fund) are present at the meeting.

 
They are expected to discuss a wide range of urgent measures government should take to create a favorable climate for investment and innovations. They will also speak about ways to legislatively regulate shareholders’ rights, introduce international standards of accounting and audit, reform Ukraine’s tax structure, fight corruption, pass clear bills for entrepreneurial activity, ensure property rights and simplify allotment procedures. They also plan to discuss ways to efficiently support investment and innovation by making officials account for their work.
 
“Today, we would like to clearly outline our economic strategy and say which challenges Ukraine is facing and what kind of support we need to deal with these challenges,” said the President, thanking those present for demonstrating that “Ukraine is economically important.”

After the meeting, the participants will approve a concept of Consultative Coucil working groups and sign a memorandum.

*The Consultative Investment Council was established in 1997 in Ukraine to elaborate and implement state investment policy. The Council is headed by the President of Ukraine.
