President Victor Yushchenko of Ukraine is taking part in a joint meeting of the National Security and Defense Council and the North Atlantic Council in Kyiv.
Parliamentary Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov, Cabinet members, Secretariat Chief of Staff Oleh Rybachuk, NSDCU Secretary Anatoly Kinakh, Security Service Chief Ihor Drizhchany, Supreme Court Head Vasyl Malyarenko, National Bank Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and diplomats of all NATO countries are present at the meeting.
The participants are expected to discuss the implementation of the 2005 Ukraine-NATO Target Plan, which was approved on April 21 at an informal Ukraine-NATO Commission meeting in Vilnius. The 2005 Target Plan in the framework of the Ukraine-NATO Action Plan, which was signed on November 22, 2002 in Prague, provides for several political, economic, military, legal, and security measures.
