Vladimir Klichko, Ukrainian boxer, overcame three knockdowns to win a twelve round unanimous decision over Samuel Peter in an IBF/WBO heavyweight eliminator Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

The taller Klichko impaled Peter at the end of his jab early on, dropping in an occasional right hand. Peter landed a big left hook to punctuate round three. Klichko was back in command in the fourth. Peter found the range in the fifth, dropping Klichko twice with right hands. The bout turned in round six as Klichko began to outbox Peter with jabs and straight rights mixed in with clinches. Peter came to life in the tenth, dropping Klichko near the end of the round. Vladimir outworked Peter to win round eleven. Peter rocked Klichko in the twelfth, but Klichko came back to stagger Peter late. Scores were 114-111 on all cards, Fightnews.com reported.

Victor Yushchenko congratulated boxer Vladimir Klichko on his victory in a fight against Samuel Peter.

The President confessed he had anxiously watched the match together with his family.

“The whole country is rejoicing at this wonderful victory,” he said.

On behalf of the Ukrainian nation, the Head of State thanked the two brothers for everything they were doing for the welfare of their country and wished them new achievements and triumphs.
