Kiev is nominated for the honorary title "European cultural capital – 2010," as reported in the press-service of the Kiev city state administration.
In particular, Kiev mayor Alexander Omelchenko signed a decree, which approves measures on preparation to awarding the title "European cultural capital – 2010."
An organizational committee has been formed and its staff has been approved. The committee is headed by Omelchenko.
The Main Department of culture, arts and cultural heritage protection of the Kiev city state administration jointly with International Liaison Department is charged with preparation of documents and application for awarding Kiev with the honorary title "European cultural capital – 2010."
Besides, considering the state budget for 2010, the Main Department of culture is charged to provide for expenses, connected with the preparation to the awarding.
