The president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazow, received a delegation of the Naftogaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company headed by Aleksey Ivchenko today, 24 June 2005. The delegation arrived in Ashgabat on the instructions of the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yushchenko, to continue negotiations on issues related to payment for Turkmen natural gas supplied and to clearing the debts of the Ukrainian side, M&C News reported.

New agreements and a contract to deliver Turkmen natural gas to Ukraine in the second half of 2005 and in 2006 were signed as the result of the negotiations. In accordance with the contract, starting from 1 July 2005 payment for gas delivered from Turkmenistan to Ukraine will be paid in foreign currency only, without deliveries of goods, at a price of 44 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters on the Turkmen-Uzbek border.

The documents were signed by Turkmen President Niyazow and the head of the Naftogaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company Ivchenko on the instructions of the Ukrainian president.

Also, with the aim of repaying the debt in goods which Ukraine owes to the Turkmen side for gas, goods are to be delivered from Ukraine to Turkmenistan at average world prices without any increases till the debt has been repaid in full. Simultaneously, issues related to the financing of investment contracts being implemented by Ukrainian companies in Turkmenistan in payment for gas supplies were resolved.

The Ukrainian side conveyed a written message from Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko to the Turkmen president, containing an invitation to pay official visit to Ukraine at the beginning of September 2005, during which it is proposed to hold a sitting of the bilateral Interstate Commission.
